abstract | The present invention relates to nucleic acid molecules which code for a protein with the activity of a β-ketoacyl-ACP synthase IV (KASIV) from Cuphea lanceolata, nucleic acid molecules which code for a protein with the activity of a beta-ketoacyl-ACP synthase II (KASII ) encode from Brassica napus, and nucleic acid molecules which encode a protein with the activity of a β-ketoacyl-ACP synthase I (KASI) from Cuphea lanceolata. The invention further relates to methods for increasing the fatty acid content, in particular the content of short- and medium-chain fatty acids, in triglycerides of plant seeds, comprising the expression of a protein with the activity of a KASII or a protein with the activity of a KASIV in transgenic plant seeds. |
