The invention relates to a processing head and a method for the surface processing of workpieces by means of a laser beam, in which, using a powdered filler material, a coating, an alloy in the area near the surface or a dispersion of an edge zone of the base material with powder particles can be carried out. The aim of the invention is to make it possible to keep the supplied powder mass flow almost constant, depending on the direction, whereby a uniform powder hollow jet is to be formed. According to the invention, this object is achieved in that a swirl chamber is formed in a housing of the machining head, into which a powder gas stream is introduced at least via an inflow opening and the powder gas stream through a conical annular gap, as a coaxial hollow jet, and also through the housing Laser beam is directed onto a workpiece surface and calming channels aligned in a radially symmetrical arrangement are present between the swirling chamber and the annular gap parallel to the longitudinal axis of the laser beam. |
