titleOfInvention Process for the production of thermoplastically processable starch esters
abstract The invention relates to a process for the cost-effective production of plasticized, thermoplastically processable starch esters from carboxylic acid reaction mixtures. DOLLAR A The process is characterized in that the main part of the carboxylic acid is removed from heated carbonic acid starch ester reaction mixtures in a predrying step except for residual carboxylic acid contents greater than 1 wt Plasticizer or a plasticizer mixture is homogeneously incorporated into a speck-free, thermoplastically processable product and the residual carboxylic acid is reduced in a mixer by suitable arrangement of one or more vacuum degassing zones by evaporation from the melt to contents below 0.1% by weight.
