Optionally substituted benzyl carbazates are advantageously prepared if a dialkyl carbonate is reacted with an optionally substituted benzyl alcohol in the presence of a catalyst in a first stage, the reaction mixture obtained is separated from the catalyst and then reacted with hydrazine hydrate in the second stage. |
