titleOfInvention Organic compound decomposition apparatus and method, excimer UV lamp and excimer emission device
abstract The excimer lamp (1) emits ultraviolet light in a vessel containing the organic liquid or vapor (3), destroying a wide range of pollutant, halogenated organic compounds An Independent claim is included for the method used and the excimer lamp itself. Preferred features: Several such units are connected together in succession. The vessel (2) contains a material buffering flow rate, increasing residence time. In the vessel there is a contact section between fluid and a catalyst enhancing decomposition. The organic fluid destroyed is freon, dioxin (polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin), PCB (polychlorinated biphenyl), trichloroethylene, tetrachloroethylene, dichloromethane, tetrachloromethane, 1,2-dichloroethane, 1,1-dichloroethane, cis-1,2-dichloroethane, 1,1,1 trichloroethane, 1,3-dichloropropene and their mixtures. The lamp comprises a discharge tube of dielectric suitably transparent to ultraviolet light. Inside there is an inner tube, with a protective tube outside. In the interspace, an outer electrode is located, with a further electrode inside the tube. A gas fills the discharge tube and an energy source is connected between the electrodes. An energy source applies HF at 1-20 MHz to a metal vessel and the inner electrode. The wavelength of the ultraviolet light is 222 nm or less. The radiation forms OH and O radicals forming compounds with the pollutants, facilitating their destruction. The excimer lamp is nitrogen-cooled and its leading aspect ratios are quantified.
