The domestic space heating appliance (1) uses solid, liquid or gaseous fuel. It has an improved operating efficiency and incorporates a fireclay-lined combustion chamber (7), formed by a baseplate (5) having an apertures for a firegrate (14), top-plates, sides (8,9) and backplate (10). The chamber (7) is surrounded by an outer casing (4) having the sides (27,28), top-plate (45), common back-plate (10) and front access doors. The vertical cladding surfaces (39) screen off the two heat exchangers (29,30) which form a high conductivity thermal bridge for heating air (46) in the convection spaces (42,43). During operation, atmospheric air (17) enters the chamber (7) and after combustion the resultant flue gases (18) travel downwards via the distribution canopy (62) through the heat exchangers (29,30) drawn by the suction fan (24) to the external exhaust. |
