titleOfInvention Process for expanding an existing transport network for telecommunications
abstract The invention relates to an N lambda wavelength multiplexing transport network used in telecommunications, wherein a topological parameter GAMMA j is formed according to equation GAMMA j = (cj+Dj)/N lambda when the network (a) is to be expanded to include a network node (j) in which additional coupling points are to be created. cj designates the degree of connection of the node considered to the additional nodes indicating the number of multifiber cables connected to a node. Dj designates the number of cable transfers in the neighboring nodes and N lambda stands for the number of different light wavelengths. If (b) GAMMA j is greater than or equal to a predetermined threshold value gamma th, new coupling points are installed in such a way that their arrangement is compatible with that of an integrated N lambda x N lambda coupling element (AWG). If (c) GAMMA j < gamma th, the wavelengths arriving in the node via a fiber are inserted jointly in a fiber leading away from the node. If step (b) of the method is not possible, the wavelengths arriving in the node via a fiber are likewise inserted jointly in a fiber leading away from the node. If step (c) is not possible, step (b) is carried out, or, if (b) is not possible, an attempt is made to conduct coupling via a waveguide.
