abstract |
Parallel layers of aluminium foil or its alloy are coated on both sides with coupling agent by spraying or immersion and the coating allowed to dry. A molten plastic matrix is introduced between adjacent layers so it binds to them. The thickness of this composite is reduced, cooled and then cut into pellets of a preset size. Apparatus for performing as above has a device (23, 25) for conveying the foils, a spray (22) for applying the agent, a dryer (24) and either a single or multiple extrusion dies (26). The single die has a slit for each foil to pass through so the matrix can go between the foils. With multiple dies each foil passes between two of the dies and one of these dies has a slit for the foil. |
