abstract Impregnation of wood with fluid comprises: (a) placing dried wood in a pressure vessel, so that the wood is immersed ina fluid in the vessel; (b) setting the temperature of the wood to above the softening point of the wood, and placing the fluid under pressure so that the wood is pressed together; and (c) reducing the internal pressure of the vessel in order to increase the volume of the wood, so that the fluid infiltrates the wood.
