titleOfInvention Method and device for controlling a throttle valve
abstract The throttle valve (23) is controlled by an electric servo drive (29) in response to sensors on the throttle pedal (35). These monitor the displacement of the throttle pedal in either direction and a controller computes drive signals for the servo motor. A failsafe system provides a mechanical connection (36) between the throttle pedal and the throttle valve if the electric drive fails e.g. if the valve sticks. The manual control is maintained until the vehicle is stopped. Bu retaining the manual control until the vehicle/engine is in a stable setting, the control avoids a sudden change in engine torque when switching from manual control back to servo control.
