titleOfInvention Process for cleaning an arsenic-containing fluid, granules and production process for the granules
abstract Production of a granulate for purifying a fluid especially ground water (13) containing arsenic involves using a granulate (12) made of a mixture of a slow-reacting substrate substance (1) especially sand (3) containing approximately 30 wt.% iron powder. The sand grain size is 0.5-2 mm diameter, while the iron powder (3) grains are less than 60 microns. The mixture is fired with the addition of 2-5% carbon powder (7) or fine sawdust to granulate in the absence of oxygen. An Independent claim is included for the water treatment process in which water is passed through a reactor (18) into which oxygen is admitted, and filled with the above granulate (12). The water residence time within the reactor is between 0.5 and 1.5 hr.
