titleOfInvention Method for determining the fungistatic or bacteriostatic activity of water-soluble inhibitors
abstract Rapid determination of water-soluble inhibitor content of products made from natural raw materials such as cotton involves measuring the diameter of the ring of inhibition caused by an eluate from the material on an inoculated nutrient substrate. A procedure for determining the fungistatic, fungicidal, bacteriostatic or bacteriocidal activity of water-soluble inhibitors in biodegradable products from renewable raw materials comprises: (a) eluting a defined amount of the product with water, (b) preparing a solid nutrient substrate inoculated with microorganisms into which the eluate can be absorbed, (c) taking up the eluate into the prepared substrate, (d) incubating the substrate and (e) measuring the size of the circle of inhibition on the substrate bearing the microorganisms.
