titleOfInvention Method for calibrating a breath alcohol measuring device
abstract The method involves using the breathalyzer to analyze ethanol-laden air at a measured temperature, and using the predetermined temperature dependence of the evaporation of the reference ethanol solution to determine the equivalent signal for a reference temperature. The equivalent signal is used to calibrate the breathalyzer. The method involves using a calibration gas generator (1) having a liquid container (2) for aqueous ethanol and an air-take assembly. Atmospheric gas is bubbled through the ethanol and fed to the breathalyzer (7). The temperature is measured using a thermometer (8) to produce an electrical signal, which may be processed and is then transferred by a transmitter device (9) to the breathalyzer, for evaluation. The measurement result is automatically calculated in evaluation electronics using a predetermined calibration curve of the dependence of the signal produced for the ethanol solution on temperature, to give an equivalent value for a predetermined reference temperature. The measurement value at the reference temperature is evaluated to calibrate the breathalyzer. An Independent claim is included for a combination of a breathalyzer and a calibration gas generator to carry out the method.
