titleOfInvention A developer composition for photographic silver halide emulsions containing an ascorbic acid type developer and an accelerator
abstract Aqueous developer for photographic silver halide, which is free from hydroquinone, contains an ascorbic acid-type developer (I), co-developer of the phenidone type and development accelerator. The novel features are that (i) the co-developer is a 1-phenyl-pyrazolidin-3-one of formula (II) and (ii) the development accelerator (III) is (a) a thioether with ammonium group(s), (b) a triazolium thiolate or (c) a substituted thioalkane; in which R<1>-R<7> = H, alkyl, an optionally substituted alkoxy or aryloxy group or a group of formula (X)p-A-(Sol); p = 0 or 1; X = O, S or amino (-NR<8>-); R<8> = H, alkyl or A-(Sol); A = -(CH2)q-, Phe, -(CH2)y-Phe- or -Phe-(CH2)y-; Phe = phenylene; q = 0-5; y = 1-3; (Sol) = a solubilising group of formula CO2H, SO3H, NHSO2R<10>, SO2NH2, SO2NHR<10>, polyhydroxyalkyl, -CH(SO3H)-C(O)-R<11>, -C(O)-CH(SO3H)-R<12> or -CH(SO3H)-CN; R<10> = alkyl or aryl; R<11> = OH, alkyl or aryl; R<12> = H, alkyl or aryl; provided that (a) at least one of R<1>-R<7> contains a (Sol) group and (b) A = a covalent linkage.
