abstract The invention relates to a method for determining the concentration of chromium and the pH value in tanning solutions, and for calculating the chromium content in leather at the time of tanning, using an analysis system for detecting spectral light absorption. Said analysis system consists of a light source unit, a cell and an array spectrometer. The light absorbed by the tanning solution is detected throughout the visible spectrum and chemical influences on the spectra form are taken into account through calibration. The chromium content in the future leather can be calculated from the decrease in the chromium concentration in the tanning solution.
