Silicon peroxide compounds of formula (XO)3Si-O-O-Si(OX)3 corresponding to X6Si2O8 (I); which contain Si-O-O-Si groups and are obtained by reacting silanes with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), are new; in which X = (i) hydrogen (H) (corresponding to Si2O8H6, a condensed peroxo-acid), (ii) hydroxyl (OH) (corresponding to Si2O14H6, a condensed peroxo-acid with free perhydroxyl groups), (iii) (crosslinked) silicon dioxide (-Si(-O-X)3 (corresponding to SiO2, a condensed silicon dioxide with only a small peroxo fraction), (iv) -OX (with X selected from the other groups, giving Si compounds with a higher peroxide fraction) or (v) O3Si-O-O-SiO3 (corresponding to SiO4, a condensed peroxo-acid, Si peroxide). (I) are Si peroxide (cross-linked) or Si peroxo-acids or any mixture of these substances. All can be obtained by reacting silanes with H2O2. Also claimed are (a) Si peroxide, obtained by reacting silanes with H2O2; (b) Si peroxo-acids Si(O2H)4 (= SiO8H4), obtained by reacting silanes with H2O2 at very great dilution; and (c) crosslinked stages between Si peroxo-acids and Si peroxide, obtained by condensation of Si peroxo-acids. |
