abstract | Catalyst composition (C1) - comprises a mixture of a vanadyl (V) catalyst of formula (I) and ca. 0.5-15 moles alkyl aluminium co-catalyst of formula (II) per mole (I) : R = 1-14C group ; R` = 1-10C alkyl ; X = halogen or OR ; X` = halogen, -OR1 or one of the following groups ; R1 = 1-10C (halo)alkyl or 1-10C-alkoxy-(1-10C)-alkyl or 6-14C aryl ; and n = 1-100. Also claimed are (i) a vinyl chloride polymerisation method in which the above composition is brought into contact with the monomer under polymerisation conditions, (ii) catalyst compositions (C2) comprising a mixture of vanadyl (V) catalyst of formula (III) and (II) in a molar ratio of ca. 1.5-3:1 and (iii) catalyst compositions comprising a mixture of (III) and alkyl aluminium co-catalyst of formula (IV) : R, R`1 = 1-4C alkyl. |
