The invention relates to a device for ablating biological substances using a laser beam, especially during stomatological treatment, comprising a pump laser and a laser converter for converting the pump laser beam into a laser beam with a wavelength range of 3 mu m +/- 0.2 mu m. Said laser converter is placed in a processing head which is separated from the pump laser by a fiber optic device. In accordance with the invention, a metal holmium fluoride crystal with an alkali or alkaline earth ion as a metal ion and with partial substitution of the holmium (Ho) ions is provided in the laser converter, said crystal being one of the compounds Me(Ho1-xPrx)F4 with a metal ion of lithium (Li) or sodium (Na), a fluorine ion and containing x=0.001 to 0.03 parts praseodymium or Ba(Ho1-xPrx)2F8 with Ba a barium ion, with F a fluorine ion and containing x=0.0005 to 0.015 parts praseodymium. |
