abstract A method of providing texture tables for generating a graphic by a computer graphics system, the computer graphics system comprising a host computer with associated system memory and graphics hardware device (150) for rendering textured images, wherein the graphics hardware device (150) comprises local memory (16). 155) and is in communication with the host computer, and wherein the host computer is configured to run an application program (PR1, PR2, PR3), a graphics application programming interface (API API) (API1, API2, API3) and a background program (160), the method comprising the steps of: (a) in response to a valid call (52, 54) of the graphics API (API1, API2, API3) by the application program (PR1, PR2, PR3), loading (56) by the application program (PR1, PR2, PR3) specified texture tables in the local memory (155) of the graphics hardware device (150) without creating a copy of the texture tables in the system memory of the host computer; (b) setting (58) a flag to check the existence and validity of the graphics hardware device's local memory (155).
