titleOfInvention Method and device for changing the chemical composition of tobacco smoke inhaled by smokers
abstract Carcinogenic hydrocarbons in tobacco smoke are greatly reduced by adding to the tobacco pref. 0.1-3 wt. % or to the cigarette filter material of n-paraffins with 11-30, pref. 11-18C atoms, pref. liquid at room temp. and of b.p. 1 mm. Hg at room temp. The paraffin is pref. applied as an aq. emulsion. In an example, addition of 1% n-paraffins to cigarette tobacco reduced benzpyrene prodn. from 20 mu g to 5 mu g per 1000.
