- In the production of latices based on butadiene, isoprene and/or chloroprene and optionally vinyl comonomers by emulsion polymerisation, the monomers are dosed into a seed latex with a particle size of 10-80 nm, based on the monomers used or on inorganic pigments, in the presence of a free radical activator and emulsifier, so that the ratio of the rate of polymerisation to the rate of addition of the monomers is (0.05-0.7):1. Polymerisation is carried out to \- 95% monomer conversion at 10-95 deg C. Dosing of the emulsifier is regulated so that the final particle size (TGL) of the latex satisfies the equation; in which DL = the density, mL = the mass and TGL = the size of the particles in the latex to be produced; Dss = the density, ms = the mass and TGs = the size of the particles in the seed. The amounts used are 0.1-10 wt.% emulsifier, \- 15 wt.% conjugated diene(s), <= 85 wt.% vinyl comonomer(s) and 0.01-15 wt.% seed, all with respect to the total amount of monomer s used. |
