abstract There is disclosed a monoazo compound of formula (I): wherein A represents alkylene (which may be substituted) or a group: -(CH 2 )m-Q 1 -(CH 2 )n- [wherein Q 1 is -O-, -S- or NR 3 -; m and n are independently 2, 3 or 4; and R 3 is hydrogen, alkyl(which may be substituted) or phenyl (which may be substituted)]; B represents * small Greek beta *-carboxyvinyl, alkyl (which may be substituted) or (phenyl which may be substituted); D represents a group of the formula (II): ```[wherein * represents a bond connecting to the azo group in the formula (I); R 4 is hydrogen, methyl or methoxy; and p is 0 or 1]; X represents a group of the formula (III) or (IV): [wherein R 5 and R 6 are independently hydrogen, alkyl (which may be substituted), phenyl (which may be substituted) or naphthyl (which may be substituted); r is 1, 2 or 3; Q 2 is -O-, -S-, -CH 2 -, -SO 2 - or -NR 7 - [in which R 7 is hydrogen or alkyl (which may be substituted)]]; R 1 and R 2 are independently hydrogen or alkyl (which may be substituted); and Y is a group: -CH=CH 2 or -CH 2 CH 2 Z ```[wherein Z is a sulfate ester, a thiosulfate ester, a phosphate ester, an acetate ester or a halogen atom]; or a salt thereof and a process for dyeing or printing fiber materials using said compound, which enables red dyeing or printing of hydroxyl group and/or amido group containing organic materials with excellent fixing in deep dyeing.
