titleOfInvention Reinforced Al¶2¶O¶3¶ sintered ceramics and process for their production
abstract The invention pertains to the field of ceramics and relates to dense Al2O3 sinter ceramics with reinforced hard material of the Al2O3/TiCxNyOz type, such as those that can be used as wear-resisting parts. The aim of the invention is to provide Al2O3 sinter ceramics with reinforced hard material having a submicrometer structure in each individual phase. To this end, the structures of said Al2O3 sinter ceramics with reinforced hard material contain a corundum matrix with 0-15 vol. % ZrO2 and 0-15- vol. % of a hard material phase based on titanium TiCxNyOz with a) an oxygen content of z > 0.10 or b) an oxygen content of z >/= 0.05 and an evident substoichiometry of (x+y+z) </= 0.95 of the hard material phase, wherein the mean grain size in each individual phase in the structures is smaller than 1 mu m and the structures can exhibit a high Vickers hardness of HV10 >/= 2,100. Disclosed is also a method whereby the powder starting materials are crushed and mixed together in a liquid medium.
