titleOfInvention Syringe plugs made of polytetrafuorethylene
abstract A medical syringe has a plunger head in contact with the inner wall of the syringe, of polytetrafluoroethylene. The plunger head material is directly against the syringe inner wall, and the plunger head has at least one ring-shaped sealing lip in a tight fit against the inner wall of the syringe. The surface or mass of the sealing lip, towards the far end of the syringe, is at an angle to the syringe axis towards the outlet end which is smaller than 90 deg . Also claimed is a process for production of a filled syringe, where the component parts are sterilised and assembled. The syringe is filled at one end and the other end is closed. The near end of the syringe is sealed by the plunger head, and the far end is closed by an outlet opening fitting or the outlet is welded. The closed and sealed syringe is sterilised, and packaged in a sterile packing of a material which is permeable to vapour, but prevents the passage of germs through it The sealing lip is pressed towards the outlet end to give a sealed pressure fit against the inner wall of the syringe. The syringe is of glass or plastics. The pressure within the syringe, on movement of the plunger head, is greater than in the injection zone either through the syringe and plunger head walls or through the syringe wall and the outlet opening. The polytetrafluorethylene for the plunger head is a TFM, and the plunger head is of a single material with an elasticity module of 550\!100 N/mm<2> at 25 deg C. The plunger head has a friction grip value of 0.35\!0.05 and a sliding friction value of 0.3\!0.05. The sealing lip is at an angle to the line through the outlet, which is transferred to the inner wall of the syringe through the pressure in use or in an autoclave.
