abstract | Use of 6-substituted 1-hydroxy-2-pyridone compounds of formula (I) or their salts is claimed for the preparation of a medicament for treating fungal diseases caused by azole-resistant fungi. R<1> = H or 1-4C alkyl; R<4> = 6-9C saturated hydrocarbyl or a substituted phenoxymethyl or phenylthiomethyl group of formula (a); X = O or S; Y = H or 1 or 2 halogens (e.g. Cl and/or Br); Z = direct bond, O, S, -C(R)2- or a chain of 2-10 C- and optionally O- and/or S- atoms (where if 2 or more O and/or S are present they are separated by at least 2C; two adjacent C can be linked by a double bond; and the free valencies of C are saturated by H and/or 1-4C alkyl); R = H or 1-4C alkyl; Ar = mono- or bicyclic aromatic ring system (optionally substituted by 1-3 of F, Cl, Br, OMe, 1-4C alkyl, CF3 and OCF3). |
