abstract The photosensitive colour coupler-containing Ag halide layer of a photographic material contains a diffusion-resistant 3,4-dialkoxy- or 3,4-alkylenedioxy-thiophene, preferably 0.01-1.0 mg/m<2> of a thiophene of formula (I). In (I), R<1> and R<4> = H, optionally substituted alkyl or aryl, a substituent with a Hammett constant sigma p below 0.25 or a thiophene group bonded directly or via a bridge at the 4- or 5- position; and R<2> and R<3> = optionally substituted alkyl or together form optionally substituted 1-3C alkylene with the proviso that at least 1 of R<1> - R<4> has a ballast group with at least 7C or at least 2 of R<1> - R<4> have ballast groups with a total of at least 7C.
