abstract | A method for improving the stability of thermoplastic resin compsns. contg. chlorine and acid compounds or other compounds which can form chlorine or acid compounds under the influence of light or heat. Pre-stabilisers are added to the compositions, essentially consisting of organic calcium or zinc salts. The method comprises simultaneously adding a hydrotalcite (A) and calcium hydroxide (B) or a calcium aluminium hydroxide (C) of formula CaAlx(OH)2+3x (I) and carrying out reaction at ca. 90 - 100 deg C. (C) is an aq. phase reaction product of (B) and soda, or (B), aluminium hydroxide and soda. x = 0 - 0.33. Also claimed are PVC and polyolefin compsns. contg. 0.1 - 2 % (A) and (B) or (C) in an (A) / (B) or (C) weight ratio of 15 - 70 : 85 - 30, in addition to an organic calcium and zinc salt co-stabiliser. |
