Decontamination of soil containing explosives, munitions and/or parts of munitions, after (a) separating coarse fractions, comprises (b) subjecting the soil to sedimentation, followed by (c) flotation; (d) removing the unfloated constituents; (e) adjusting the flotate to a water content < 30 wt.%, adding cement, lime and/or gypsum, moulding under pressure, drying to a water content of 15 to < 20 wt.%, heating the moulding for 20-80 minutes at 500-1000 deg C in the presence of atmospheric oxygen and then discharging it from the furnace; and (f) subjecting the waste gas to heat treatment and removing dust and nitrogen oxides. Also claimed is the equipment used in the process. |
