abstract | Fountain soln. (wetting soln.) for lithographic printing, contg. (a) a butylene oxide (BO) adduct of an alcohol (I) and (b) a pH buffer (II). Pref. alcohol (I) is methyl, ethyl, n- or iso-propyl, butyl or tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol, ethylene glycol (EG), di-EG, tri-EG, propylene glycol (PG), di-PG, tri-PG, glycerol, di-, tri- or poly-glycerol, trimethylol-ethane or -propane, 3-methylpentane-1,3,5-triol, pentaerythritol, sorbitol or mannitol. Adduct (a) is obtd. by reaction with up to 20 moles BO per mole OH gps. in (I). Buffer (II) comprises citric, ascorbic, malic, tartaric, lactic, acetic, gluconic, hydroxyacetic, oxalic, malonic, laevulinic, sulphanilic, p-toluene-sulphonic or phytic acid, organic phosphonic acid, H3PO4, HNO3, H2SO4, polyphosphoric acid, or alkali, alkaline earth, ammonium or organic amine salts thereof. |
