A process is disclosed for producing finely divided, water-insoluble aziridine polymers by polymerisation of aziridines, preferably ethylene imine, in the presence of cross-linking agents which contain at least two functional groups in at least one ether. Also disclosed are modified, water-insoluble aziridine polymers obtained by reacting finely divided, water-insoluble, cross-linked aziridine polymers in an aqueous medium with carbon bisulphide or formaldehyde and a nucleophilic agent from the group of the alkaline metal cyanides, primary amines, secondary amines, alkaline metal sulphites and alkaline metal phosphites. The invention also relates to the use of the modified and non-modified, finely divided, water-insoluble polymers for immobilising active substances, as absorbing agent for aldehydes, ketones and acids and for removing heavy metal ions from waste water. |
