titleOfInvention Non-magnetic substrate, magnetic recording medium, magnetic recording drive, methods of manufacturing the same and methods of converting a surface of a layer into a rough surface
abstract The basis film (2) of, e.g. chromium, is built on the non-magnetic substrate (1) made of glass, silicon, aluminium, etc. Above this there is the recording film (3) made from a hard magnetic material: CoCrPt, CoCrTe, CoCrPtTe, granulated Fe-SiO2 or Co, Ni, Fe, or an amorphic material with Co content. Above this is the laminated thin-layer protection film (4). For swimming or floating magnetic recording heads the surface is evenly roughened by forming the protection film (4) from alternating layers of carbon particles (5) and other materials (6): Al, Cr, Zr, Hf, Ti, Si, Mg or their oxides, nitrides, or carbides, then selective etching. Eleven process variations are indicated.
