abstract A paraffin is reacted with gaseous SO2 in the presence of O2, a heavy layer of paraffin sulphonic acid and sulphuric acid is separated from the resulting reaction mixture, concentrated in the presence of H2O2, e.g. in an amount of 0.01-10% by weight of the sulphonic acid, and the sulphuric acid so separated is removed from the concentrate. Products have light colouring.
