titleOfInvention Electrochemical cell
abstract A method of manufacturing a positive electrode active mass precursor comprises reacting a transition metal halide aqueous solution with an alkali metal hydroxide and, optionally, a metal-free base, to produce an alkali metal halide-containing precipitate. The alkali metal halide-containing precipitate is separated from residual liquid by removing residual liquid to a degree which adjusts, or allows adjusting of, the proportions of soluble and insoluble reaction products. The precipitate may be washed to adjust the content of soluble reaction products therein. If necessary, the water content of the precipitate can be adjusted to render it suitable for shaping. The precipitate is dried and reduced at temperatures up to the melting point of the alkali metal halide, to form an intimate mixture of transition metal and alkali metal halide having a mean particle size of less than 2 mu m.
