Process involves reaction of one or more borate esters with two or more metal chlorides, simultaneously or separately, in air inert solvent under anhydrous conditions.Products are complex polymers containing chains such as and can be used to give a matt surface to glass or fibrous materials, also as catalysts in polymerisation of ethylene.Metal chlorides are chosen from: Ti (IV), Zr (IV), Hf (IV), Sn (IV), Al (III), Fe (III), Ga (III), In (III), Sb (V), Mo (V), Nb (V), Ta (V) and W (VI). Suitable borate esters are tri-alkyl or -aryl borates, trimethoxyboroxine, and trihexylene glycol diborate; ratio of ester to total chloride is at least 1 : 3 |
