The catalyst for the partial hydrogenation of alpha , beta -unsatd. aldehydes to allylic alcohols contains Ag or Cu and, as sec. metal, Cd, Mn, La, Sm, Nd or Ce, on a carrier of SiO2, Al2O3, TiO2, ZrO2, ZnO, MgO or active C. The atomic ratio of Ag or Cu:sec. metal is 1:10-8:1 and the amt. of carrier is 10-99.7% of the catalyst. Also claimed is the prepn. of the catalyst by precipitating the hydroxides of Au or Cu and of the sec. metal onto the carrier from an aq. soln. of a salt of the metals, followed by sepn., drying, shaping and redn. in a stream of H2 at 50-500 deg C during up to 5 hrs.. |
