Sorbent for strewing on odour-intensive waste contains 90-99.9 pts. wt. of at least one surface-active mineral (A) and 0.1-10 pts. wt. of at least one ethereal oil. Also claimed is a process for treating waste by strewing the sorbent in powder form on the waste. Pref. the sorbent also contains <= 8 pts. wt. dust-binding agent (B); a pH regulator, e.g. Ca(OH)2 or Na2CO3; 0.001-10 pts. wt. insect repellent; and/or 0.001-10 pts. wt. agent reducing or preventing insects developing or breeding. (A) is a smectic silicate or zeolite with an average particle size of 30-300 mu m, contg. 1-10 wt.% fraction finer than 5 mu m.
