abstract |
Prepn. of Guerbet alcohols (I) involves condensation of aliphatic alcohols (II) in presence of alkali(ne earth) metal hydroxide (III) as catalyst and a cocatalyst (IV) by the Guerbet reaction. The novelty is that the initial pressure in the reactor is adjusted to the vapour pressure of (II) and that during the reaction the pressure is continuously reduced to the vapour pressure of the reaction mixt. |
