titleOfInvention Process for the preparation of cyclopropanamine
abstract The prodn. of cyclopropanamine (I) by Hofmann degradation of cyclopropanecarboxylic acid amide (II) comprises (i) suspending 1 mole (II) in 1.1-4 moles 10-50% NaOH soln. (A) or in a little water (B), (ii) adding 1-1.5 moles hypochlorite (as 5-15% soln.) at 0-20 deg C, (iii) reacting for 10-60 mins. and then passing the homogeneous mixt. continuously through a tubular reactor at 45-260 deg C (in case B, after addn. or with continuous addn. of 1.1-4 moles NaOH as above), and (iv) transferring the mixt. to a distn. column and refluxing with water.
