An active matrix (AM) liq. crystal display consists of an AM diode arrangement together with a pair of parallel substrates enclosing a nematic liq. crystal medium consisting of (A) a cpd. of formula (I) with positive dielectric anisotropy and (B) a cpd. of formula (II) with negative dielectric anisotropy. R<1> and R<2> = alkyl, alkoxy, alkenyloxy, oxaalkyl or alkenyl with 1-15C; R<3> = X-Q or as R<1>; Q = CF2, OCF2, OCFH, OCH2CFH, OCHFCF2, OCF2CF2 or a single bond; X = F or Cl; Z<1> and Z<2> = -C?=C-, -COO-, -CH2CH2- or a single bond; rings A<1> and A<2> = 1,4-cyclohexylene or 3L<3>,5L<4>-phenyl-1,4-ene; rings A<3> and A<4> = 1,4-cyclohexylene or 2L<5>,3L<6>-phenyl-1,4-ene; L<1>-L<4> = H or F; o and m = 0 or 1; and n = 1 or 2. |
