titleOfInvention Process for the preparation of alkyl oligoglucosides with a high degree of oligomerization
abstract The invention concerns a complex process for preparing alkyloligoglucosides with a high degree of oligomerization (degree of polymerization = 1.6 to 2.0), wherein: (a) fatty alcohols and glucose are subjected to acidically catalyzed acetal formation in a molar ratio of use of between 3:1 and 10:1 at temperatures ranging from 90 to 120 DEG C; (b) the reaction water is continuously distilled off; (c) at the end of the reaction between 0 and 90 mol % of the acid catalyst is neutralized; (d) an amount of non-converted fatty alcohol is separated such that the molar ratio of the remaining fatty alcohol and glucose, relative to the initial amount, is still between 1:1 and 3:1; (e) the reaction mixture is subjected to post-polymerization at temperatures ranging from 90 to 120 DEG C; and (f) the remaining amount of acid catalyst is neutralized and the remaining amount of non-converted fatty alcohol is separated. The products are distinguished by their particular colour quality and their alkali stability and are suitable, for example, as antifoaming agents used in mechanical bottle-washing.
