titleOfInvention Object head for a cryostat microtome
abstract A sampling head (2) for a cryostatic microtome has a fixed base (3) in which a ball jointed swivelling extension (4) is provided with a recess (6) to accept the stem of a removable sample table (5). The table (5) is retained by a screwed arm (12) which also serves to orientate the table prior to sample sectioning by the microtome blade (not shown) after being fixed in position via the threaded locking handle (11) and spherical shoes (9a,9b). The freezing/icing-up of the ball-joint due to water seepage is prevented by the flexible cylindrical sealing band (7) and its engagement with the coned surface (8).
