titleOfInvention Process for the production of an asymmetrical diester of alpha, beta-unsaturated dicarboxylic acids
abstract The process comprises reacting maleic anhydride and monohydric alcohol (a) in molar ratio of 1:(1.0-1.2) to give maleic acid monoester and/or fumaric acid monoester (A) contg. substantially no maleic anhydride, and reacting (A) and alkenyl halide (B) in the presence of tert. amine (C) of 0.7-1.5 mole(s) and water of 0.01-0.20 mole to 1 mole of (A). Pref. the process further comprises contacting with adsorbent (D) after removal of tert. amine. (B) is allyl chloride and/or methallyl chloride. (a) is 1-22C monohydric alcohol. Molar ratio of (A):(B) is usually 1:(1.0-1.3), pref. 1:(1.0-1.2). Prepn. of (A) is performed in organic solvent, pref. benzene, toluene, or hexane, of 5-30, pref. 8-20, wt.% to whole amt. of maleic anhydride and (a). Reaction temp. is usually 40-120 (pref. 50-100) deg C. Reaction of (A) may be performed in no solvent or in organic solvent as that used in the first step. Reaction temp. is usually 40-130 (pref. 60-100) deg C. Adsorbent (D) is pref. active carbon or synthetic zeolite. Use amt. of (D) is usually 0.1-10.0, pref. 0.5-2.0, wt.% to unsymmetrical maleic and/or fumaric acid diester.
