abstract An infrared detector cell according to the invention comprises a plurality of linear segments arranged at uniform intervals, which form an optical grating. Each segment is selectively doped across its width to form a photovoltaic diode. The linear segments make an ohmic contact between electrical conductors in order to generate a detection signal of a single cell. The cell includes an optically diffractive resonance cavity. A field or matrix arrangement of the cells can generate an infrared image. Cell configurations for receiving radiation in one dimension or linearly polarized as well as two-dimensional or unpolarized radiation are specified.
