abstract A biodegradable polyester (esp. in the form of industrial materials) which is decomposed by micro-organisms under natural conditions (as described e.g. in DIN 53739D or ASTM D5338-92) are claimed. The polyester (I) is obtd. from an aliphatic polyol and a mixt. of aromatic and aliphatic polycarboxylic acids as monomer components, and contain repeating units derived from: (i) polyol and aromatic polyacid; and (ii) polyol and aliphatic polyacid, more than 90% of the type (i) units being directly coupled with no other such units or with not more than one such unit. Also claimed is a material contg. (I), in the form of sheet, pref. film, single filaments, filamentous material, or mouldings, pref. injection moulded or extruded prods. or foam mouldings.
