titleOfInvention Process for the production of organic fluorine compounds
abstract (Substituted) hydrocarbons and polyolefins are fluorinated with gaseous fluorine in the presence of an alkali metal fluoride. Polyolefin may be polyethylene, with mol. wt. 10,000-200,000 or paraffin wax. Ratio of fluoride in catalyst: polyolefin is at least 0.1:1. Suitable catalysts are LiF, NaF or KF, pref. in a finely divided state i.e. a particle size of 20-325 mesh and pref. dispersed throughout the material to be fluorinated. The reaction takes place at -20 deg. to 100 deg.C. The fluorine is suitably diluted with an inert gas diluent. As water proofing agents and lubricants.
