The invention concerns novel cationic and/or amphoteric oligomers obtained by: (a) condensing dimeric fatty acids having an average of 36 to 54 carbon atoms with tertiary amines of formula (I), in which R<1> and R<2>, independently of each other, stand for alkyl groups having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R<3> stands for an NH2 or OH group and n is a number from 1 to 6, and (b) subsequently quaternizing the resultant dimeric fatty acid esters or amides with alkylating agents in a manner known per se. |
