titleOfInvention | Dialkyl or alkylenephosphonylaethylene glycols and processes for their preparation |
abstract | These have formula (where R1 and R2 are C1-C6 alkyl groups or R1 and R2 are a C2 or C3 alkylene hydrocarbon chain). They may be prepared by reacting a dialkyl or alkylene phosphonyl dioxolane in aqueous solution with a base at ph approx. 9.5 and a temperature between 0-30 degrees C, preferably between 20-25 degrees C. The compounds are non-inflammable and may be used to impregnate wood, paper and textiles. They are also useful starting materials for the preparation of esters and polyesters, urethanes and polyurethanes. |
