abstract Chromone-2-carboxylic acids of general formula (I), their esters, salts and prepn. where R = CONHR' or is absent, R' being alkylene up to C4. When R5 and R8 = H, R6 and R7 together with their attached 6 and 7 C atoms form fused rings A, B, C or D and when R is absent, R9 = H or alkyl and R10 = H or R9R10 is =O. When R = CONHR' the fused ring is E where X and Y = the same or different -O- or -CH2-. When R6 and R7 = H, one of R5 and R8 is H and the other alkoxy or both are alkoxy up to 2 or more C atoms. When the fused ring is D, preferred R9 and R10 are H and Me or both together are =O. When R6, 7, 8 = H, R = OMe or OEt. Esters are Me and Et esters and esters from HOR'.NHR"R3 where R' = C1-6 alkylene, R" and R3 = H or alkyl or NR"R3 = a heterocyclic ring. Inhibitors of antibody-antigen reactions in auto-immune diseases e.g. rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus etc.; anti-anaphylactic agents in specific allergic asthmas.
