titleOfInvention Process for the continuous production of acetals
abstract The alcohol and aqueous formaldehyde enter a rectification column near the top and the acetal or a water/acetal azeotrope - is obtained at the top and water at the bottom. An acid catalyst, e.g. acid form of an ion-exchange material, is used. The method can be used to make cyclic acetals of glycol, propane diol 1:2 or 1:3 or butane diols.
