abstract | Appts. for continuously contacting a liquid with a gas Partic. for purifying terephthalic acid to give a high purity product, consisting of a vertical vessel with a tapering bottom section, fitted with a liquid or suspension feed pipe, a gas inlet and at least one outlet for discharge of the liquid or suspension, and divided into at least two sections by at least one tapering partition each section being constructed so that material present in one section can be passed successively to the bottom or lower part of the other section, either via an opening in the bottom of the first section or a pipe running from one section to the bottom of the next higher section and forming a means of supplying liquid or suspension and the desired gas to the bottom of this upper section and in the case of the final or highest section in the vessel forming at least one discharge opening for removal of the gas and the treated liquid or suspension. |
